Reviews: KG "ReGrooves Vol. 2" "The entire Kid Gusto EP is really hot. Excellent work. I picked it up online, and I'll be making good use of it in Europe. I'm doing a few quick edits of it for my sets. His taste is impeccable." "DC's Kid Gusto is back after a short respite (dude was dominating lab charts two years ago) with a welcomed second volume in his remix series. Gusto's remixes might has well be called songs, cause he completely reworks the instrumentation with a unique style. At first listen, you won't be able to decipher the original. With "Melo-D(1)" you just be hit with a wall of drums. This is some advanced shit. "Claps On(2)" is a pleasant surprise, as he gives the drum and bass treatment to oldies classic "Clapping Song." KRS-One has lost hip-hop relevancy these days (no disrespect), but "New Brazin(3)" is a pretty ridiculous remix of "Hip-Hop vs. Rap." Lastly "Ay Yay Yay(4)" is some a chunky midtempo latin. Potent stuff. -the mgmnt" "Big brash and aimed straight for the dancefloor, top US mash up-er Kid Gusto returns with four tracks of latin party breaks and funky DnB - likened to the early Fort Knox Five releases. Melo-D bangs the drums, while Claps On ratchets the Clapping Song vocal to a drum and bass backing that somehow works really well. New Brazin flips a whole host of old school hip hop vocals over some tasty and rather well known beats while the Brooksie remix of Ay Yay Yay mingles a latin classic with breaks in a way not dissimilar to the Los Hermanos Latinos releases. A guaranteed party starter." "Hottest re-works to cross my path this year. "Melo-D" and "Claps On" immediately went into rotation, and I expect them to stay there for a while." KIDGUSTO's back! New 4 track EP of funky remixes, re-edits, and mashups. The tracks range from a mix of Latin funk, funky midtempo breaks, hip hop sampling breakbeats and a fast and furious dnb remix of the "Clapping Song" which works a treat. New Brazin is a killer KRS-ONE mash, while Ay Yay Yay is some tasty lain funk. Every bit as funky as the first FORT KNOX EP. |
