KidGusto & TrueGrooves Announces Their Latest Release: KG Originals, "REMIXED"
Cat# TG006

KGOG REMIXEDFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: December 15th, 2008

TrueGrooves is proud to announce the release of KidGusto's KG Originals, REMIXED.

After the success of last year's KG Originals, KidGusto promised to release an album of remixes. With a year's work put in and five producers added to the roster, Remixed emerged. In many ways, the new album follows the template of KG Originals. Both span the spectrum of dance music, moving from downtempo and reggae to hip-hop and nu-funk. And both fuse a variety of sounds from across the world. But if KG Originals was an example of an artist exploring and reporting on an assortment of cultures and sounds, Remixed is the collective response to those initial notes.

With answers coming from as far as Germany and as close as Gusto's hometown, Washington, D.C., Remixed doesn't so much reinvent KG Originals as it produces a more traveled, wizened album. On "Mini Joop," Marc Hype & Jim Dunloop add touches of hip-hop and funk to the song, dragging it out of corner and onto the dance floor. DJ DRM's mix of "Sonic Conducer," on the other hand, moves away from what we have come to expect from a KidGusto release. By dropping the backbeat down to the kick drum, DRM turns it into a driving-'yet funky--four on the floor house track. For "Fed Up," Rusty B and Kaushik M utilize dub techniques to rearrange the song into a composition wholly slaved to the bassline; both voice and rhythm fall into and out of a bottom in absolute control. Adding a haunting vocal and a beat firmly inside the pocket, Kaushik M's mid-tempo take on "Trip to Alborz" moves the album back to DC. 18th Street to be exact. Finally, Gusto's original song, "Stop, Drop and Roll," closes the record. Working with vocalists Mustafa Akbar and Stranjah, Gusto pushes the tempo back up to peak territory, and the two men trade verses over a bassline barely capable of reigning in the drums. One listen and it becomes clear: Gusto's finally returned home.

KidGusto's "KG Originals. Remixed" is currently available as 12" Vinyl and is available through all major digital retailers includingKidGusto - Kg Originals Remixed

URB Magazine Review of KG Originals
May 21, 2008
View Review on URB Website

If only one word could describe the sound of this album, then that word would be cunning. With his latest full-length, KG Originals, KidGusto delicately weaves out of one genre and gently glides into another without ever missing a beat. His faultless intermingling of these genres hypnotizes the mind to make the body move in response without even realizing it. He arrogantly teeters between cultures pulling the best from each and intertwining them together to create a sound so smooth, one would never guess they didn't start off together.

The record opens with a reggae dancehall vibe in 'Fed Up' featuring Rootz and Zeebo of See-I. The track begins as a tropical blend of sharp trumpet blows and a snare drum that elaborates and matures into a full on drum and bass tempo with a transition between genres that's so seamless, the listener doesn't even notice it until after it's happened. 'Movin' On' is a sultry track infused with a touch of Brazilian seduction. The soft whistle of the woodwind instrument compliments the gentle tapping of the congas, or bongos, and would be the perfect track to sound a movie scene where people are dancing underneath the stars on a beach somewhere in the wildest of fantasies. 'About That Jazz', which showcases the trumpet talent of Joe Brotherton, is easily reminiscent of the soulful house from the mid '90s when people were just about done with techno. It has a relaxed vibe to just chill out to and it would be no surprise if this track was already a favorite among loungers in the scene.

Each track on the album is a feel good time with every change of the beat: KidGusto is the alchemist of rhythms, his amalgam of sounds on KG Originals is nurtured just right to reach its full potential and blossoms before the listener to reveal a new meaning from that which is started.

TrueGrooves Announces Their Latest Release by KidGusto, "KG Originals"
Contact: kg@funkdc.com

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: November 12th, 2007

KG OriginalsTrueGrooves records is proud to announce the release of KidGustoÂ’s KG Originals. This will be KidGustoÂ’s first full-length release. It includes fourteen original songs, and as to be expected from TrueGroovesÂ’ most successful and prolific artist, both musicians and singers alike have been happy to contribute both note and voice to the release. One can expect appearances by See-I internationalÂ’s Rootz and Zeebo, Washington, DC artists Mustafa Akbar and Joe Brotherton and the Miami based vocalist Bleu.

Of course, it is KidGusto’s vision, whether as composer, arranger or organizer, that makes KG Originals his most comprehensive release to date. Here, sounds and cultures fuse. The carnival rhythms of Brazil, the paint-bucket crash of Washington DC’s Go-Go and the trailing echoes of Persian classical music clang together, which, in turn, reverberate and create something new and original. Whether one’s tastes rest within raucous, dancefloor bombast or the more mannered styles of a lounge, KG Originals delivers—sometimes in the very same song.

KG Originals will be Released on November 12, 2007 and available for purchase and download from a variety of retailers such as Groovedis.com, Turntablelab.com and all major digital retailers.

TrueGrooves Announces the Release of KG "ReGrooves Vol. 2" April 15, 2007

Regrooves Vol. II Side A TrueGrooves and KidGusto announce the release of Re-Grooves Volume II, the second installment of their highly successful remix series, which Turntable Lab has labeled “potent stuff.”

“Melo-D” is a driving, percussive track with modular synthesizers which builds into a frenzy of drums that is sure to have a contagious effect on the dance floor. “Claps On” flips the script with a 60’s R&B sample re-worked into a drum and bass track.

“New Brazin’” opens side B with an intelligent dance floor friendly hip hop remix which melds together classic verses from KRS One and Method Man. The EP closes with a remix from Baltimore’s own Brooksie. This heavy hitting, latin vocal and horn-laden track will work on any dance floor.

Here is what people are saying about it:

“DC's Kid Gusto is back after a short respite (dude was dominating lab charts two years ago) with a welcomed second volume in his remix series. Gusto's remixes might has well be called songs, cause he completely reworks the instrumentation with a unique style. At first listen, you won't be able to decipher the original. With "Melo-D(1)" you just be hit with a wall of drums. This is some advanced shit. "Claps On(2)" is a pleasant surprise, as he gives the drum and bass treatment to oldies classic "Clapping Song." KRS-One has lost hip-hop relevancy these days (no disrespect), but "New Brazin(3)" is a pretty ridiculous remix of "Hip-Hop vs. Rap." Lastly "Ay Yay Yay(4)" is some a chunky midtempo latin. Potent stuff.”
-Turntable Lab

"The entire Kid Gusto EP is really hot. Excellent work. I picked it up online, and I'll be making good use of it in Europe. I'm doing a few quick edits of it for my sets. His taste is impeccable."
-Steinski

"Hottest re-works to cross my path this year. "Melo-D" and "Claps On" immediately went into rotation, and I expect them to stay there for a while".
-Monk One
